The Nordic Development Fund’s new publication Spurring climate innovation through challenge funds explores innovation spurred by two challenge funds that are managed by NDF, the Nordic Climate Facility (NCF) and the Energy and Environment Partnership covering Southern and East Africa (EEP Africa) Trust Fund. It is the first time a systematic approach has been used to assess how NDF fosters innovation through these challenge funds.
One of the findings of the study is that innovations can take many forms and there is space for innovation on a number of fronts. Technological innovation was seen only in a small portion of all project applications.
The publication was launched at COP24 in Katowice, Poland, on Tuesday 11 December in an NDF-organised side event at the Nordic Pavilion.
